Prettying up my Porch

Our front yard is something that we never have really finished in the 4 and a half years we have lived in our house. We bought the house in 2007 and worked on it for about a year before actually moving in. On our first night in our new home (literally getting into bed on our first night), my water broke and  8 hours later we welcomed Rylee into this world.  Needless to say, our focus was on getting the inside of the home ready and in the meantime we didn't do anything to the yard.  It took us about a year before we even put any grass in the front yard, and the backyard only has one small patch underneath the swing set.  We have so many plans, but just haven't narrowed it town, so it goes undone.

Anyway, I was feeling inspired to give our front porch a little bit of curb appeal. I have been really into the whole idea of repurposing items, and so when I found these chairs at Thrifty Bargain, I had an idea.  I didn't really come up with the idea, but I had seen it before, so I did my own rendition.

The chairs were only $4.99 AND it was 50% day! SCORE! I wasn't really looking for something with such a high back on it, but I figured I couldn't be picky at that price and it was going to just be a test run anyway. So I got to work tearing them apart! They kicked my butt! They definitely don't make furniture to last the way they did back whenever these babies were made! Rylee took the picture of me working.

I regret the fact that I didn't take any pictures of  the rebuilding, but I wasn't really planning on blogging the process. All I can say is that I am glad I have a creative husband who I can brainstorm my cooky ideas with by showing him doodles and pictures and he can turn around and build me exactly what I want. I would love to do everything myself, but I am not comfortable enough with power saws! My fingers are long and clumsy :)

 My Bench!

And here it is on my porch along with some little artworks I made which are not hung yet.
I think I might make a little cushion from burlap....but that's another day!
